Every single french person suffering with TMD knows there is no TMD nor TMJ

There is no recognized speciality about TMD or occlusion

For european patients and especially French , you must know that there are laws and rules for practicing dental art or medicine:
1 There is no recognized speciality about TMD or occlusion . In France , for dentists there are just 2 : ODF ” orthopédie dentofaciale” and ” chirurgie buccale. Any other writen speciality as “occlusodontiste” is illegal so not proven. For medical doctors as me, it is ” stomatologie” . We have some ” compétence” available as ODMF .
2 Any kind of advertisement is forbidden..

Hello to all, I come from France and encounter pains since 2011. I would like to answer to this point (sorry for my english, i try to do my best). ‘Any other specialty writen as “occlusodontist” is illegal so not proven ‘ >>>>> it’s more or less right on the 1st part because this discipline is not recognized in France by the College of Doctors (Called l’Ordre des médecins, in France), they have nowhere else the right to post it on their firm plate. On the 2nd part I do not share your view because without my occlusodontist (which is also a dental surgeon and specialize in this discipline in connection with the occlusion) I will not have been able to live ‘normally’ because the pains without the splint, that I now keep 24h / 24, were unbearable and no stomatitis, dentists or other had not been able to bring me at least even minimal relief. When the doctors attached to the ‘Ordre des médecins’ will understand that other disciplines such as osteopathy can help us, there will will be a great advance

Every single french person suffering with TMD knows there is no TMD nor TMJ speciality in our country. I think we all have met various doctors and specialist all over France. (Many of us have met 30/40+ doctors, dentists and so on in many different hospitals and cities). It does not change our situation. It is not my personal case but some people have been suffering for over 20 or even 30 years! Which is unacceptable.

John Mew
I am sorry to learn this, it must discourage new developments. What can be done about improving the service for patients. Prof John Mew.

Another unbereable thing is How people with TMD are treated in France (usually sent to psychologists/psychiatrists), being told we are hypochondriac and so on. We are all being given antidepressents and other pills. Why? Because most of them dont care? Because they are legally protected that is why patient are not allowed to give names.

Joséphine Gld
that’s 100% true, for example, they gave to me Cymbalta (60mg) which has none effect on my actual pains

Also, What i have quickly notice is a barrier langage especially when it comes to specific vocabulary. I dont see a lot of mediteranean people in here nor mediteranean doctors/dentists/spécialists. I have also looked at some conférences about TMD / TMJ and orofacial pain (past and coming up conferences) and i see no fench names!

Lara Millet
Alain is the only one helping us at the moment. Maybe 3 or 4 other dentists but certainly no More

Alain Mgc
Thanks Lara ! And yes langage is a problem . Yes, when I came to conferences or courses , overseas, I never met another French doctor … So we are less than 10 and don’t know each other

John Mew
It sounds to me as though you should form a group of dentists, doctors, orthodontists and patients. This might give you the right to state your case. Prof John Mew.

Lara Millet
We are only 400 and something on the TMD fench group. We have no impact. They dont care (let s say 98% of them) because we obviously dont represent money. If there were 1 million of us things would be a lot different.

Fany Rose
It is necessary to create an association so that we are finally
understood! In France there is not! Somebody has to make it with
patients and doctors and other people would be the beginning of a
gratitude for us French

Fany Rose
A lot of people does not know what they have! And the doctors can put finally a name on this pathology

Lara Millet
Obviously! But the 35 or so doctors i have met never replied to my mails. They dont care

Fany Rose
I am sure Lara that you are going to manage to make things happen

Fany Rose
There are that by the association only things will evolve

John Mew
I agree with Fany Rose, you need an association and I think that should include professionals such as speech therapists, dentists, orthodontists, anatomists and scientists. I hope you succeed Prof John Mew.

Hany Almouslem
Fany Rose I thought that there was a pretty strong group at Université de Nantes; try establishing contact with them and let me know of the outcome.
My knowledge is that orthodontic folks there were affected by the Bioprogressive philosophy and as suc… See More

Fany Rose
