I was wondering how many of you are being affected in your jobs or social life because os RLS?

Know it sounds like and excuse but I’m so tired.

So… For the first time my RLS affected my job. Last night I was awake until 4 am, as all nights before that. Then I wake up at 6:30 to take my daughter to school, then I went back to my house, prepared my breakfast and I was eating in the sofa (yes I know bad habit) and I felt sleep and woke up at 10, I was supposed to be at my job at 9!!! I know it sounds like and excuse but I’m so tired. So, I was wondering how many of you are being affected in your jobs or social life because os RLS?

100% my work had been affected, always running late so as to sleep till the last second possible. They have been very understanding thankfully otherwise I wouldn’t know what to do. Can you get any support from the government if you can’t work due to rsl ??

Anelena Cruz Arvide
Kristie Bragg not in my country (México) in another comment somebody said that in United States was not a possibility. Where do you live?

I am retired now, but in my retired life, (which is supposed to be fun, right?) my RLS makes it almost impossible to plan anything in the mornings because I don’t know how bad my night is going to be. Most older folks are early risers but I really don’t fit into that category at all so I miss out on a lot of fun things. Also I never schedule any appointments or activities in the morning because of my legs at night. 😢

Candace Allen I’m right there with ya

I was going to ask the same thing. Today is the third day In Two weeks that Ive had to leave work after a few hours because I hadn’t slept more than 4 hours …I feel like my life has been profoundly affected by RLS I’m sure you all relate – how long does one wait before going on medications for this disease? Has anyone gone on disability for this?

Brigitte Miller
Catherine Emile good luck with that… not a bad enough disability. I know several have tried and got declined more than once. You need more wrong than little old RLS 😂…

Catherine Emile
Brigitte Miller didn’t think so but wondered about it

Linda Anderson Roberts
Brigitte Miller yes I did. And got it within 6 weeks!!

Catherine Emile
Linda Anderson Roberts really? Are you in US I’m in Canada

Brigitte Miller
Linda Anderson Roberts just RLS? in USA?

Brigitte Miller
Nursing injuries from lifting etc are easier to get. I have a few friend’s who got hurt that way. 😢

Anelena Cruz Arvide
I live in México., not even Doctors think this is disease, let alone approve a disability.

Linda Anderson Roberts
Brigitte Miller I went rightin meds when seeing the neurologist… but this is not a fun time…some meds work, others do not!! You have to keep a journal!! It is very helpful!! Best of lu k and let me knowhow you make out!!

Catherine Emile
Linda Anderson Roberts thanks that’s a great idea to document it all / food activity / sleep time

I barely slept last week and weekend. Had to call in for work on Monday. I do have a standing desk at work so that when I get restless legs during the day I can be moving around.
So sorry this is affecting you and your work.

Anelena Cruz Arvide

Cindy LM it is sad that you have discomfort during the day. I only have problems at movies or airplanes. Mostly it’s at night.

Mine was really effecting it before I got medicine. I had to be at work by 5, which is extremely difficult when you’re up until 2 or 3 not being able to sleep. I had to call in multiple days because I literally couldn’t get out of bed, or because I knew I couldn’t function properly. Lack of sleep is not something to mess with! And don’t worry about “excuses” sleep deprivation sucks. It can literally turn you into a different person.

Anelena Cruz Arvide
Bailey Hill right, my mood has change, I had become intolerant. But it is something that family or coworkers would not be able to understand.

Anelena Cruz Arvide that’s one of the hardest things. Other people don’t get it or don’t understand why we don’t just get some medicine to fix it.

When I was at university, there were times I disrupted the class as I had to get up and walk about, luckily I was in a small class and the other students were great with me, they would suggest we all have a 10 minute break, (if possible) with lecturer’s permission. Or I would go out for a walk and they would take notes for me x

Oh me for sure. It’s not an excuse, it’s a hard reality that we all face. I work from home so I fall asleep often while trying to work and end up feeling unproductive and stressed out. Today I had a super important online meeting and I fell asleep during the last 15 mins of it, thank God I had my camera turned off and no one asked me a specific question!
