Is total jaw joint replacement the only way to solve with splint in, closed position problem

Can the disc meniscoplasty solve this issue or no

Is total jaw joint replacement the only way to solve my problem?Currently seeing a dentist, and wearing a splint which is high on the backThis picture is with splint in, closed position. Plan is to have the discs stitched back in and then ortho to correct the bite. I am worried this may not work, CT shows right condyle much smaller than the left this is causing my lower jaw to become slanted causing big left open bite. Can the disc meniscoplasty solve this issue or notAny thoughts?

Kian Niaki anythouths about this case?

Keren Purchase Are you seeing a cranial osteopath as well as wearing the splint?

Rob Stubbs no, but going to start, it seems no body knows how to treat this case with dentistry/ortho?
All I know is that extraction ortho on top and not on bottom damaged my bite and facial complexion to grow long, bad airway, mouth breather, and then blow to the right face caused the already unstable tmj joints to displace on the right, then causing a shift in bite – both upper and lower rotated into each other causing wear of right condyle and left open bite. My diagnosis and it’s correct. It’s crazy what this condition can do in a short time, face used to be wider, even and much fuller, aesthetics more pleasing and even contact. Wish I could so my orthodontist. Wish Orthotropics was around for me, tho I was too young at the time to make the judgement that extractions (only needed to make room for two overgrowing teeth to come down) could of been avoided, would have been so much better to just expand and allow the overgrowing ones to fit in to an already crowded mouth, not make it smaller. GRRRRR

Kian Niaki Sam Burton, Indeed your case is a special one, but answering yes or no to your important question is very difficult, as you know any consultation should based on findings and I think most professionals prefer to see you and decide accordingly. By the way with provided information I think it will not solve the problem but highly benefit your tmj condition and prevent additional defects. I suggest you to have a consultation with Prof. John Mew , Dr. Mike Mew, Dr. Paul Buescher or Dr. Vadim Michailovich Novikov.

Paul Buescher Hi Sam, firstly you have to tell your problems, that hopefully had asked you your dentist. To explain shortly, problems with your joint are seldom until never isolated problems. As the result of a wrong placed TMJ you can have for example headeaches coming from the neck and going to both sides of your head or just to the left or right side. Problems with your ears or just one. That is meaning for example a normal pain, problems with hearing, preasure problems and so on. Not to seldom the people with TMJ problems also have problems with with clear sunlight. TMJ problems work to the hole Body and influence the neuronical situation.
A wrong placed TMJ for ex. Is responsble for a pelvic obliquity and in consequence with one shorter leg and so on. It can make back pain and more. And so on. Isolated problems on the TMJ you only have, as long as your body system is able to compensate the wrong placement of your TMJ.
As I wrote you above, this is a very short view on a few problems of a wrong placed TMJ. Sorry for my bad english.
Best regards, Paul Büscher

Chor Rith I got the same thing happened and I really regret the past decision. I should never had orthodontic treatment. it ruins my life. I am desperate right now. ( tmj + sleep apnea )

Eva Willer-andersen Chor Sovannarith sorry to hear of your difficulties . When you say you got the ‘same thing happened ‘ Can I just clarify this please you had orthodontics but did you have disc plication surgery as well?

Keren Purchase Sam Burton, is your dentist who made your splint expecting that your right condyle will regrow while wearing the splint, and before you have surgery to reposition your discs? I assume they don’t think your discs will recapture with the splint.

Chor Rith Eva Willer-andersen, Sorry that i didnt detail in my comment. I had 3 times of traditional orthodontic works, teeth extraction and retraction, which caused me bad TMJ and Sleep apnea. currently my right side jaw joint is getting smaller and I am in a very bad pain and uncomfortable bite, really uncomfortable.
I haven’t gone through any kind of surgeries yet, but many doctors i have met offered me Jaws surgery ( Orthongatic ) in order to correct the problem, in contrast i would like to try functional appliances first such as expander … etc to reopen extraction spaces and put back four teeth, as some people proved that help cure both TMJ and sleep apnea. I am not sure if this could be done in my case.
By the way, excuse my English, i am not a native speaker.

Rob Stubbs I keep stressing the importance of expansion in my case but no one seems to understand the importance of it

Chor Rith Most dentist believe that adult maxilla cant be expanded anymore …. but I think the arch still can be widened …

Rob Stubbs Most dentists don’t try it, it can be widened and teeth gaps opened, I know someone who had it
