The Eyes Have It Why Blepharoplasty Is A Popular Cosmetic Procedure

Bags under the eyes, excessive skin around the eyelids, drooping eyelids that impair vision … all of these things are candidates for blepharoplasty, otherwise known commonly as eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty is the perfect cosmetic procedure for reducing the mini-carryon baggage under your eyes. It is also great for upper eyelids that appear to be sinking and even that drooping eyelash line that is moving into your line of vision.

While the aging process causes many of the eye problems listed above, sometimes ptosis, a medical condition in which the eyelid droops due to poor nerves or muscle tone, is cause for the surgery. Blepharoplasty only surgically enhances the eyes, not the wrinkles around them or lowering brow lines. For this reason, blepharoplasty is usually couple with other procedures such as facelifts, brow lifts and other wrinkle-blasting, facial lifting procedures.

The reason for blepharoplasty :

Elasticity is the main reason why blepharoplasty is considered. When the flexibility within the skin is lost, especially around the eyes, there is excess skin which sometimes precipitates the accumulation of fatty deposits. Eyes will look puffy, aging you and making you look tired, wrinkled and old.

Proper skin care can help slightly but it will not completely prevent this excess skin from forming. Your body’s chemical makeup and genetics both play a role in how this excess skin and fat accumulation develops. With cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty, you can regain that youthful appearance around the eyes and look refreshed and rejuvenated.

Are you ready for it?

If you educate yourself about the blepharoplasty and know what to expect out of the surgery, you are one step closer to being a great candidate for it. You must also be in good health as well as display emotional stability. Age is not a total factor as genetic disposition can cause people in their 20’s to need it. The typical age though for blepharoplasty starts in the mid 30’s and up.

There are certain conditions that might preclude you from the surgical procedure. If you have heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, dry eyes, Graves’ disease, hypothyroidism or even glaucoma, you likely will not be eligible for it. Certain physical abnormalities may also preclude you from qualifying for the surgery.

Procedure breakdown :

Little incisions are made along the upper eyelid creases and may extend beyond the outer rim of the eye. When removing fatty tissue build-up that causes those under-eye bags, the surgeon typically makes a small incision just inside the lower rim of the eye in order to remove the fat. Surgeons do what they can to minimize and hide incision markings so as to prevent visible scarring.

You will likely be placed under local anesthesia so you are awake the entire time but just numbed and in la-la land. In certain cases, general anesthesia may be used in a hospital setting. Your physical anatomy and what you requested to be done factor in to which anesthesia the doctor chooses. Some surgical procedures can take up to a few hours.

If you are seeking a way to brush up on your eyes’ appearance, a blepharoplasty is a logical choice. It’s a great alternative to a full facelift, that’s for sure.
