Bladder infections, kidney stones and urinary tract infections are the most common ailments or diseases of the urinary system. These are conditions for which a person feels pain or discomfort in his bladder or elsewhere in the urinary tract. There are various symptoms related to these ailments.

The urinary system is a complex organ system that performs the following functions:

  • Moves urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
  • Allows an individual to voluntarily urinate.

Common ailments of the urinary system

The urinary system is an organ system responsible for the production and storage of urine, the removal of excess water from the blood, and the excretion of certain waste products. The kidneys square measure the most organs of this technique.

Many ailments can affect the urinary system. Some of the foremost common include:

-Kidney disease can lead to anaemia, high blood pressure, and an electrolyte imbalance (sodium). Patients may experience abdominal pain or swelling due to fluid retention in their legs and feet.

-Urolithiasis, which is when stones form in the urinary tract.

-Epididymitis, which is an inflammation of the epididymis (a tube that connects to the testicle), is usually caused by sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia.

-Kidney stones are small stones that form in the kidneys when there’s too much calcium or other substances in your urine.

-Urinary tract infection (UTI), is an infection of the bladder, urethra, or kidneys that cause pain and fever.

A UTI occurs when bacteria enter your urinary tract and multiply causing an infection. It often affects women during their reproductive years but can also affect men and children too.

Symptoms include:

-A burning sensation when urinating

-Increased frequency to urinate (particularly at night)

-Cloudy or foul-smelling urine

-Blood in your urine

-Feeling the need to urinate even though your bladder is empty

-Pain or pressure in your lower back, pelvis or abdomen

There are several different types of UTIs, including:

  • Cystitis (bladder infection)
  • Pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa (a type of bacteria)
  • Bladder cancer
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Chronic prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland).
