What are Three Common Diseases Caused by Klebsiella Pneumonia?

Klebsiella pneumonia is a type of pathogen or germ, that can cause illness in your lungs. This type of bacteria is usually found in the digestive tract of healthy people, though it can also enter the body through wounds and cuts, according to the American Lung Association. Below are three of the most common diseases caused by Klebsiella pneumonia.

In this blog, I will discuss three common diseases caused by Klebsiella Pneumoniae. The information presented is intended to further educate medical professionals, as well as improve awareness to prevent further infection.

What is Klebsiella Pneumoniae?

Klebsiella pneumonia is a bacterium that can cause pneumonia, meningitis, and urinary tract infections. It can also be found in the digestive tract of healthy people, but it can lead to serious illness when it enters the bloodstream through an open wound or surgical site.

Klebsiella Pneumoniae Infections:

Klebsiella pneumonia is a type of bacteria that lives in our intestines. Some types of Klebsiella are more likely to cause infections than others. The most common type of Klebsiella pneumoniae infection is pneumonia. Pneumonia develops when bacteria from the digestive tract enter the lungs, causing inflammation in the air sacs (alveoli) and making it hard for oxygen to reach your blood. This can lead to difficulty breathing and even death if left untreated.

Symptoms of Klebsiella Pneumoniae Pneumonia include:

  • fever
  • cough with green mucus (phlegm)
  • chest pain and tightness
  • shortness of breath with activity

Three Common Diseases Caused by Klebsiella Pneumoniae

Klebsiella pneumonia is a bacteria that can cause a wide range of infections. The most common cause of infection comes from the lungs or urinary tract, but it can also cause other diseases.

Here are three common diseases caused by Klebsiella pneumonia:

1. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

A UTI is an infection of the bladder or urethra that causes pain, burning and frequency when urinating. It’s often called cystitis and is caused by bacterial overgrowth in the bladder lining. A UTI is usually treated with antibiotics. Klebsiella pneumonia causes 80% of all UTIs in adults and 50% in children under five years old.

2. Respiratory Infection

This can cause pneumonia, which is an infection of the lungs that makes it hard to breathe and causes coughing up mucus (phlegm). Pneumonia can result from a variety of causes, including viruses, bacteria and fungi. According to the CDC, if you have a symptom such as fever, Chills, Shortness of breath, Coughing up blood or rust-coloured sputum that looks like coffee grounds, Chest pain, Nausea and vomiting.

3. Pneumonia.

It is an infection of your lungs that may lead to difficulty breathing and chest pain. Symptoms include coughing, fever, fatigue and chills. People who are at risk for developing pneumonia include older adults, those with chronic lung diseases such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, people who smoke cigarettes or use tobacco products, those with weak immune systems due to HIV/AIDS or diabetes mellitus type 1 or 2 and those who have recently undergone surgery or had an accident resulting in internal injuries requiring medical treatment in the ICU unit.

Klebsiella pneumonia may be spread by coughing or sneezing, or through contact with stool. It can be contracted from contaminated water supplies and from close contact with someone who has an infection with the bacteria.
